Thank You.
Neighbors,
While there are still votes left to be counted, we’re going to come up short in our campaign for District 3 Supervisor.
Though we did not win on Tuesday, our campaign was still full of so many victories. We earned 44% of the vote. We won each of these votes the hard way: through one-on-one conversations, by putting out bold policy proposals, and by sharing a vision for a better District 3 by giving our neighbors a voice in our city.
We knew this was going to be a challenging race from the beginning. That’s a given when you run against a 4-term incumbent (not to mention doing it in the midst of a pandemic). We shattered expectations nonetheless. As recent as a month ago, one politico told me we should be happy if we ended up with even 25% of the vote!
I could not be more proud of how we ran our campaign and more thankful to the supporters surrounding us over the course of the year.
You played a tremendous role in making this possible. You gave generous contributions to fuel our campaign, you made thousands of phone calls to neighbors, wrote postcards until your hands cramped, and you showed up to countless campaign events to get the word out. For that, I will always be grateful.
To my team: Thank you! Alea and Rikki are the best staff a candidate could ask for, and our dedicated interns, phonebankers, canvassers cannot be matched. I’d choose this team again any day and I’m so lucky to have spent countless hours with you. To my wife Chelsey: how was this for an eventful first year of marriage? Thanks for always being my partner and for your unwavering support.
Finally, I hope that you all will treat this campaign and our momentum as a start, not a finish. Our city has tremendous challenges ahead, and we need to all stay active and involved if we are to meet the potential we all know San Francisco can reach.
Rest up and refresh, but please take this energy forward when you’re ready. Channel it into your neighborhood association or a local political club. Stay in the arena and work for solutions. Of course, reach out if I can ever be of help.
Above all, know that this is a city worth fighting for. That’s what I intend to do, and I hope you’ll do the same alongside me.
